A/H1N1 Influenza Virus
Dear Parents,
The A/H1N1 virus is spreading rapidly thoughout Geneva and has now reached epidemic proportions. Many cases have been diagnosed in public and private schools, among them the Institut International de Lancy, particularly since 12th November.
Measures of hygiene recommended by the Service de Sante de la Jeunesse (the Geneva health department) are being followed such as frequent hand washing and the use of alcohol based solutions (for children from primary age).
Pupils should come to school well prepared with a supply of paper handkerchiefs, and should cover their mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.
The authorities do not foresee closing any classes or the school. Children who are in close contact with an infected person (family member, au pair, etc.) may attend school as long as they do not show any symptoms.
Pupils with symptoms such as a temperature AND a cough, cold, aches, headache, upset stomach, will not be accepted in school. They must remain at home for a further 24h.
